Tasha had a hard time narrowing down the list of girls she wanted to invite so I let her invite 18 girls thinking we would have about half that many come because that is how it has been in the past during the summer parties I have planned. There were 14 girls that came. That was a lot of girls to keep busy in our small place. We made due with the space we had available, but I have realized since that 10 will be the limit to any party I put on. Inside parties are more challenging to throw. Outside parties are the way to go. Everyone needs their space.
The plan was to have the girls start out doing an All Dolled Up Word Search as they waited for all the girls to show up. Meanwhile Aubri Elzinga and I would be doing hair and my friend Sayuri would be painting nails as they continued to move from one activity to the next.
The line up of activities: word search, make crowns, make bead bracelets, hairdos, painting nails, make plastic tablecloth dresses, fashion show, hors d'oeuvres and cupcakes and ice cream for our after party.
I had envisioned the perfect party. I had thought through everything (so I thought) but it was a bit chaotic. These details will explain what I mean. Room was an issue. Because everyone seemed to be moving through different activities at different times it was hard to keep everyone entertained. Rob was in charge of running the show along with pictures (you will find a lack there of) but it was a bit challenging being the entertainer. He did the best he could, but I felt helpless and not in control of the surroundings which drove me a bit batty.
I made some cute sashes with the girls names on it for the fashion show that I forgot to pullout. I was doing hair most of the time and we were running short on time so we were just trying to fit everything in and I completely forgot them. (Makes me sick to think about, but it is what it is.) During the fashion show the computer stopped working so we couldn't use the music we picked out. Such a bummer! Luckily they could still walk down the red carpet.
We had planned to have deli meats and cheese, veggies and veggie dip, fruit and fruit dip, and punch. I made cupcakes in princess cupcake holders with swirled frosting. We had party cake ice cream to go with the cake. I bought a premade veggie tray that happened to be bad. We didn't know it until we opened it at the party. It was terrible! The punch I made was a bit too fancy apparently because the girls just wanted Sprite. They ate late since it was the last thing on our agenda and they were starving. I should have fed them at the beginning. This was the first time we served food. In the future I will avoid it all together and stick with cake and ice cream.
What did I learn? Keep it simple! What should have been a low cost party ended up costing us an arm and a leg.
Even with all the snags...pictures say 1000 words...
Our photographer forgot to capture some of the hairdos of the event. Here is one from the backside. It's a fishbone braid.

The Glamour Girls
In my eyes it felt like such a disaster because it wasn't the picture perfect party that I imagined but what matters most is the big smile on this girls face.
Happy Birthday Tasha!
Thanks to everyone who helped with Tasha's party. Couldn't of done it without you!
