Power of the Fast

One thing I strongly believe in is fasting. I'm not sure exactly why it works, I just have had too many experiences when I have fasted for something and my prayers have been answered. I took a couple oppportunities to fast while I trained for the marathon. I fasted that we would be able to meet our fundraising goal for Shriner's Hospital and that my body would respond well to the therapy and training. I saw miracles, both small and large, take place on almost a daily basis.

Donations to Shriners came in abundantly the week of that fast. People have been so generous. We sincerely appreciate each and every person who chose to donate and support us as we raised money for this worthy cause. I honestly didn't think we would reach $500.00 but was touched by the generosity of so many wonderful people. THANK YOU!!!

As we got closer to Race Day, my sisters and I had one last fast in hopes that we could all participate in the marathon despite our injuries. I mentioned the fast to my kids and gave them the choice whether or not to participate. I didn't think much of it knowing my kids would rather eat than starve. They ate breakfast, but something unexpected happened when we got home from church. One by one they approached me telling me that each one of them was going to fast for the remainder of the day. I thought for sure that their fast would be short lived, especially for my little Ty, BUT they didn't eat until around 7:00 that evening when we had dinner. They didn't even mention being hungry. I was completely shocked.

As we sat at dinner I asked Tasha why she decided to fast. She simply said, "Because I know how important this race is to you Mom." I was truly touched as tears filled my eyes knowing that my kids showed their love through this tremendous act of service. They wanted me and my sisters to particiapte and finish the race we had all worked so hard for her.  A huge sacrifice was made on our behalf and it was felt in more ways than one. The sweet prayers of those we loved so much were heard.

Each day I was training with my injury I was able to do more reps, go a few more minutes, or increase my pace. I received strength from on high when I wasn't sure I could keep going. I knew there was hope that I could accomplish my goal. Ultimately we each received a miracle on race day as all three of us were able to complete the race.
