West Point

We headed to New York to check out the West Point Academy. My favorite part of the day was walking on the grounds of the school. The architecture was beautiful. We were lucky to sneak in. On certain days they hold parades, or "reviews" as they say. It's basically soldiers marching in sync while a band plays music. This review allowed us the opportunity to see the grounds, otherwise we would've had to pay a tour guide to show us around. This day was a FREE day spent with family. Who doesn't like anything FREE or spending time with FAMILY. I will take FREE fun with FAMILY any day.

We checked out the Visitors Center. Here we learned more about the life of a student at this prestigious military academy.

We also checked out the West Point Museum. We knew going to such a place wouldn't be kid friendly but we also feel its important for our kids to experience a variety of learning experiences. And yes, there was only so much excitement to be had seeing gun after gun. But I hope in some ways they remember how blessed we are to have volunteers to serve our country so that we may enjoy the freedoms we enjoy.

See, here's the difference in our families. "seeing gun after gun" would be exactly why they would love it.

I agree with your comment about being grateful to the volunteers who will fight for our freedoms.

So, so cool! Greg and I saw the campus on the latest episode of the Apprentice and all we could think about was "why didn't we go there?" The architecture looks amazing and the "free" part definitely helps. What was the town like???

The town was quite small. BUT it is near Bear Mountain State Park which is AWESOME!
